with great joy I present to you the music of Higgs & Wilson, the premier singing sensation in Jamaica.
Higgs & Wilson were the first stars of the Jamaican music business that started in 1960.
Joe Higgs and Roy Wilson formed this duo in 1958. In 1960 and 1961 they had five number 1 hits in Jamaica. Their track “Manny Oh” sold 50.000 times in Jamaica and ruled all dances during the whole year 1960. Jamaicans remember “Manny Oh” as their first native Jamaican hit.
Until now their music was never officially re-released. After over 50 years this is the first time this great music is made available for you.
Keith Scott, the brother of Roy Wilson, worked at Federal Records at the time and as an eye-witness told the story of Higgs & Wilson to me to share it with you.
All participating musicians at all songs are listed in the attached booklet and you will see that Higgs & Wilson were supported by all the great musicians of the time like The Caribs, The Skatalites, Roland Alphonso, Tommy McCook, Don Drummond and many more. Also included are the only existing two pictures of Higgs & Wilson plus many pictures of the playing musicians.
Roy Wilson and Marcia Higgs, the daughter of the late Joe Higgs, both authorized this re-release.
ENJOY!
